We are delighted to announce that applications for the Trainee Manager Scheme for September 2018 are now open to GLL staff. Opportunities are available in the following Regions London East, London West, West, North, Northern Ireland and the South West. Salary package is subject to the location offered.


This award winning scheme is a 2 year placement and development programme that aims to fast track talented people into Assistant Manager roles and produce the senior managers of the future. Many of our current Directors, General and Assistant Managers came through the Trainee Manager Scheme


Leisure managers operate within complex business environments and are responsible for centres operations, leadership, customer liaison, technical, programming, marketing and financial management. The Trainee Manager scheme helps you to prepare for these challenges.


The 2-year programme includes:


Placements: In Year 1 – Various frontline placements, a regional human resource and project management placement and Year 2, Duty Manager and Health & Fitness Supervisor roles


Qualifications: National Pool Lifeguard Level 2, Fitness Instructor Level 2, Pool Plant Operators Level 3, Coaching qualifications

Development: Internal GLL training modules from practical systems training to budget management and leadership modules; participation in the Trainee Managers’ learning forum and national leadership conference ; A professional level 5 Diploma (in year 2 with opportunity to top up to degree level)


Mentoring: Throughout the Scheme you will have a senior manager mentor, line manager and ‘buddy’ to provide you with support, additional learning and networking opportunities and an understanding of the GLL business context.


To be eligible for the scheme you need:


  • 5 GCSEs (A-C) including Maths and English
  • At least 12 months’ exemplary service in a frontline position
  • Be able to demonstrate your commitment to continuous development

Working pattern:
Full time 39 hours

Contract Type:
Secondment / fixed term 2 years.

Starting Salary:

From £18,114 to £20,268 pa + benefits*
